Bill was late for a birthday party and ended up in prison because of it. What happened?

A naked man is lying dead in the middle of a desert with a match in his hand. What happened? A man is found dead in a desert. He is naked, and lots of clothes are scattered around him, among other things. There is a match in his hand. How did he die?
